moving time!

So, James & I have been discussing this for a while but earlier this week we just decided to go for it; we’re moving back to Missouri… on Monday. As such, I will be MIA on the blog while I’m packing & relocating. Once things get situated in Missouri, I promise I’ll be back to blogging. In the meantime, if you want to know how the process is going you can follow my Twitter to stay updated.

It’s crazy to think that just over a year ago, we made the move to Maine & now we’re moving back to Missouri. Just another adventure in life, I guess.

no A/C? :: save the world saturdays

Okay folks, it has been in the 90′s this whole week & we don’t have an air-conditioner. Today we are trying to run as little electronics as possible as to keep the heat in our apartment to a minimum [so this post will be breif]. In this way, we are doing our part to conserve energy [mind you we are slightly being forced because if given the option, it would be like an ice box in here today!]
But, turning the A/C off is seriously something to think about! Some people always run either their heater or air-conditioner, which can be wasteful. I just want to suggest to you that when the weather permits, turn off your “fake air” and open up your home to the outdoors.

Hooray for Friday Follows! I’m so excited to share Dark Eyed Fran’s blog, Life at the Vanity. I mentioned yesterday that blogging about lipstick was a hint. Fran’s blog is “a makeup addict’s duty to the world.” She shares all about her personal experiences with makeup: the products she loves & why. On a personal note, I’ve known this lady since she was in 6th grade; she’s been one of my sister’s best friend for years. It has been so great to see the girl bloom in to an awesome woman. And now, I’m addicted to her blog! But enough of my babbling, read the interview & see for yourself…

Good Golly Miss Mollie: Tell us about yourself…
Dark Eyed Fran: I am currently in Graduate school to get my Masters in Teaching so I can teach either middle or high school! I graduated with a BA in art and have won numerous awards including the converse “punk your chucks” contest, and designing the Hyatt hotels house chardonnay! I love vintage things (even before it was popular I was an old soul), baking, art, makeup, and a glass of sweet tea!

GGMM: Where does “Dark Eyed Fran” come from?
DEF: Darkeyedfran was the name I used for my deviant art account, my middle name is Frances and and I have dark eyes which I love!

GGMM: When you were apartment hunting was a vanity a requirement or just a bonus?
DEF: The vanity was an added bonus but it pretty much sealed the deal in my apt. hunt. Also the building itself is a historical monument built in 1926 and still sports the original elevator with closing gate.

GGMM: What made you decide to start blogging about makeup?
DEF: I consider makeup reviews to be my “duty to the world” in a way, I always try and make informed decisions when buying a makeup product because there are so many flops! So I find it my duty to report how well the makeup performs, which are my favorite etc. I also have ALOT of makep.

GGMM: Since you’re just recently started, what kind of feedback are you getting & are you surprised by any of it?
DEF: I’m very surprised that my blog isn’t even a week old and it had views from 5 different countries and over 200 american views! I was floored and really excited that I could make even that amount of difference in someone’s cosmetic journey! Alot of people respond on my facebook because they dont have blogger and they really seem to be receptive, even people i haven’t talked to in years have suddenly come to me for advice!

GGMM: What is your goal for this blog?
DEF: This blog is really my incentive for finishing my homework I must say, I tell myself that I can make a post if I finish on time! the overall goal is to help people save money, there will be some mediocre reviews eventually, i’ve just started with drugstore things I really love!

GGMM: What do you hope readers take away from your blog?
DEF: I hope to take away a sense of purpose for this blog and to instill the idea that beauty is not the same thing as being vain…you can love makeup to feel better and more classy and thats not a bad thing. I often post in my PJs! I think in my mascara post I have my hanes t-shirt on…If I can show people that i’m not afraid of being imperfect even though im a beauty blogger then i’ve made some kind of a difference!

lipstick that i actually like :: thursday treats

So, I love makeup. I do. I don’t feel that I need makeup to leave the house, or anything. I just love the versatility that makeup provides. Plus, I’m an artist at heart & what better canvas to paint than my own face? That being said, I have never liked lipstick [or lip gloss for that matter]. NEVER. I’m pale & growing up my mom was always telling me that I needed some color on my lips to complete my look. I would slick on a tinted lip balm & call it good. My biggest complaint about lipstick was that it felt like I was wearing lipstick… eww! Goopy, slippery, unnatural lipstick. While I do love makeup, I hate feeling like I’m wearing makeup! I stick to stuff that is lightweight & natural feeling while fulfilling it’s make-uppy function.

All of this to tell you now, I have found a lipstick that I love. LOVE. This is also a neat post because: a) I don’t just want this Thursday Treat, I actually have it & b) I’m giving you a hint at tomorrow’s Friday Follow… I’m not going to say any more than “Dark Eyed Fran” is the one who introduced me to this lipstick. Okay, let’s get on with it.

Introducing Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick! This stuff feels like wearing lip balm, but looks like you’re wearing lipstick. Seriously, was this lipstick designed just for me? I am really excited about this makeup find. I think one of the ways they accomplish the great feel is through the LiquiSilk, which basically means that there is silk in your lipstick! Can you say luxurious? Plus, the first color I tried “Pink in the Afternoon” was the very same color that Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

whales :: what’s up wednesday

So, this past week has been pretty eventful! My grandparents are in Maine for a several weeks before they head back to the Midwest, and my Auntie Elaine was staying with the for the past week as well. I miss my family so much & it is such a comfort to know that they are close by!

Last Friday, they picked me up & we headed to Boothbay Harbor for a Penguin Cruise [it is a little known fact that I love penguins!]. However, we were significantly delayed by construction & missed the cruise by 10 minutes. Boo! But the company [Cap'n Fish's cruises] was kind & traded our tickets in for whale watch tickets. Aside from getting an awkward sunburn, I had a great time! We saw tons of whales & enjoyed 3 hours out on the open sea.

Then I went back with them to their resort in Bethel for the weekend. We celebrated the “Mollyockett Days“on Saturday, which is a local event celebrating Mollyockett a historical native american figure of the area. Mostly we just hung out and enjoyed some local culture! Then on Sunday, James drove up & met up with us, as did my second cousin Jan & her husband Chuck, who live in New Hampshire. We had a lovely get-together filled with food, sangria, and card playing. Again, I love my family!

Not much else has happened this week, as I was feeling a little icky on Monday & catching up on everything on Tuesday. Otherwise, life is good while I’m on vacation.

nutella :: tuesday eats

So today’s deliciousness is not a recipe, but a food staple. Being fortunate to live in Europe as a child, I have known & loved Nutella (pronounced “new-tell-uh”) from the very start. However, I’m learning that not so many Americans are familiar with this amazing spread [even though it can be found in the peanut butter aisle of most grocery stores]. So, I’m here to share a little light on the subject [and maybe learn something myself!]

To begin, Nutella is a hazelnut spread [think peanut butter but with hazelnuts] with chocolate. Do you like chocolate covered hazelnuts? Then you will like Nutella. Do you like chocolate? Then you will probably like Nutella.

In fact, Nutella was started by the same man who started the Ferrero Rocher company [yummy chocolates!]. Pietro Ferrero was looking for a way to extend chocolate during World War II when the luxury was difficult and expensive to come by. After creating Nutella [then called "pasta gianduja" or "supercrema gianduja"], it was 1/6th the price of chocolate [and arguably just as delicious!] Nutella is also great because it does not contain artifical colors or preservatives, it does not contain hydrogenated oils, it is gluten free & peanut free, & it has maintained essentially the same recipe since 1940. To learn more about the history of Nutella or just more about the product itself go to www.nutellausa.com. I do want to note that I do not work for & am not being paid by the company to promote this product. I just believe that this will make everyone’s life better [unless you have a dairy/nut allergy!]

Now, you may be wondering how to use Nutella in your every day life. Here are some ways I use it in my home:
- Spread on a piece of wheat bread as a plain & simple snack
- Pretzel dip
- Waffle/pancake/crepe/french toast topper
- On a sandwich with peanut butter & bananas
- In baking, added to my chocolate chip cookie batter
My basic rule is, where ever you can use peanut butter you can use Nutella.
